"Band Finds It's Groove"
by Dylan Kristy

Often before you find yourself you have to lose yourself and with the release of their second album, The Ugly, only one day away, Explode When They Bloom knows this better than most.

Beneath their rugged exterior, Explode When They Bloom consist of county boys Jason Ouellette, Dave Allan, Aaron Lynn and Jon Hopper.

Their second full-length release, The Ugly, was a long and arduous process, said drummer Allan.

"The goal originally was to get in the studio really quick, record the songs and get the album out by summer 2009," said Allan.

"But things got held up and a lot of different stuff went down. Everyone was just really busy and there was confusion, not knowing where we were at and what each of us wanted out of the band."

Vocalist Jason Ouellette said the band finally found its groove and The Ugly is a true representation of the band's currently state.

"After the first CD we really learned what kind of show we wanted to put on and the kind of tone we wanted to set while we played," said Ouellette.

"The Ugly is just getting through it all to the other side," he said.

"No matter how little we talked and how bad the communication was, every time we listened to what was done so far we knew we couldn't break up yet, it was too good. Now that it's done it's almost astonishing it is what it is."

CD BREAKDOWN

Passion, defiance, anger and a shot of Jack Daniels. All the ingredients for good ol' rock and roll and the heart and soul of Explode When They Bloom's latest release, The

Ugly.

The sophomore release of Windsor rock band Explode When They Bloom is drenched in dirty biker bar rock like AC/DC and ZZ Top and yet maintains a fierce groove.

The Ugly is an explosion of musical zest and is driven by electric guitar and shreddin' guitar solos throughout.

The album is available for $10 at Dr. Disc, 471 Ouellette Ave.
